About Shyla Mathews, Founder The NICE Movement

Shyla Mathews is a distinguished business entrepreneur with a remarkable career from 2006. Before venturing into entrepreneurship, she honed her skills in Communications Management while working with some of the world's leading Multi-National Corporations. In collaboration with her British business partner, she co-founded an esteemed International Relocations Company, which has garnered multiple prestigious awards. Shyla has gained recognition in various prominent media outlets for her exceptional contributions to the industry and her philanthropic endeavours in Cambodia and Sri Lanka.

 

Her recent commitment as a Social Entrepreneur with The NICE MOVEMENT is dedicated to achieving several impactful goals:

  1. Elevating awareness for neurodiverse individuals.

  2. Implementing coach approach intervention programs designed to provide vital support to individuals facing Executive Functioning and Literacy challenges.

  3. Fostering collaborations with like-minded individuals and organisations to create a more inclusive environment.

  4. Pioneering efforts to facilitate equitable opportunities for the neurodivergent community to thrive in their homes, schools, and workplaces.

 

Shyla's inspiration to pursue education and training in this field stems from her eldest daughter's early struggles with reading, which led to a later diagnosis of ADHD. Subsequently, her second child also received a diagnosis related to neurodivergent challenges.

 

To address her children's learning and developmental needs effectively, Shyla Mathews enrolled in specialised programs with the Dyslexia Association of Singapore. There, she earned a Specialist Diploma in Specific Learning Differences. She further expanded her expertise by training in the Orton Gillingham Approach for Early Literacy Intervention and Lindamood Bell.

 

Additionally, she has achieved certification in Executive Function Coaching from CIM-UK, equipping her with comprehensive knowledge and skills, including:

  • Advanced understanding of fundamental neuroscience and neuroplasticity concerning executive function skills.

  • Profound insights into the pre-frontal cortex's role in relation to Executive Function.

  • Proficiency in executive function skills training with a focus on emotional regulation.

  • Mastery of fundamental coaching and motivational interviewing techniques.

  • Competence in evaluating clients in terms of change management and perspective shifts.

  • Providing robust support to clients in developing executive function skills and goal-setting.

  • Assisting clients in the creation of new habits and strategies.

  • Ensuring clients maintain progress and conducting evaluations.

  • They are embracing a collaborative and supportive coaching model.

 

Expertise in Executive Function Coaching & Literacy Intervention

Shyla specialises in working with children and adolescents aged 6 to 18, providing Literacy Intervention and Executive Function Coaching since 2021. Her practice includes one-on-one EF coaching and/or Literacy Intervention with students, and parents. She has also been a guest speaker, sharing her insights on Executive Function and its optimisation for learning at the National University of Singapore School of Law. She emceed a one-day workshop in May 2024 for professionals with renowned speaker and author Dr Sharon Saline. She also emceed a 1/2 day workshop for adults with ADHD and parents with ADHD children with the same speaker.

Continuous Professional Growth:

Shyla Mathews boasts several Graduate Diplomas and holds a Masters in Communication Management. Her unwavering commitment to professional growth is evident through her ongoing pursuit of advanced coach training and mentorship. She is currently training directly under Dr. Peg Dawson of the “Smart and Scattered” series of books and a pioneer in the field of Executive Function and Coaching. She is also CPD certified in Safe-Guarding for Child Protection Awareness. Her dedication to her personal and professional development underscores her commitment to profoundly impacting the lives of neurodiverse individuals and their communities.

CONNECTIONS IN MIND

Connections in Mind is a group of organisations committed to raising awareness of executive function skills and their impact on people’s development and relationships. CIM was started in 2016 by Dr Bettina Hohnen, Imogen Moore-Shelley and Victoria Bagnall and pioneered Executive Function Coaching in the UK. Today they are one of leaders of Executive Function Coaching with Certification.

SMARTS EF®

SMARTS EF® is a holistic, research-based executive functioning (EF) framework and curriculum for all learners in grades 2-16. It helps them learn self-understanding and basic EF strategies that promote self-confidence, resilience, and academic success—areas that are critical for success in school and life. For Learners With and Without  Learning Differences.

CONNECT & COMMUNICATE - "360" Thinking

The model is the brainchild of Kristen Jacobsen, MS, CCC-SLP, and Sarah Ward, MS, CCC-SLP, who are co-directors of Cognitive Connections Executive Function Practice, LLP. The 360 Thinking executive function model and programme, is helping a growing number of individuals with executive function challenges  enjoy the autonomy, independence, and self- confidence when they are taught this programme.

STRENGHTENING BRAKES: HARNESSING ADHD POTENTIAL - Dr. Sharon Saline

Based on her book, ” What your ADHD child wishes you knew”, Dr Saline trains professionals and parents to navigate effective treatments and strategies to help kids with ADHD. Her 5C’s Approach provides a framework for workable solutions.

SAFEGUARDING

SAFEGUARDING is the prevention of impairment to children’s physical and psychological health and wellbeing while providing circumstances that enable healthy development. In 2020,  ChildSafeguarding.com became the first universally accessible Child Protection training for all adults in schools. Their Child Protection Awareness Course and our bespoke eLearning platform are designed to be accessible and affordable to schools, school vendors, and other organizations that work with children. details.
